Dental Implants
Dental implants look, feel and work just like the real thing and are an ideal way of replacing one or more missing teeth.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are titanium replacements for missing teeth, they are used to fix a ceramic tooth (crown or bridge) permanently in position. Dental implants are also used to hold dentures in position to increase chewing power and eliminate the risk of a denture slipping during eating. The dental implant will quickly fuse with the surrounding bone tissue to provide a stable support. Implants should last a lifetime, if looked after properly, and can be fitted in anyone with a fully developed jaw bone, who is relatively healthy with good oral hygiene Dental implants can improve quality of life: they improve chewing efficiency, comfort and appearance. Implants increase your confidence and provide an unequalled sense of security.
How are they placed?
Having an implant involves a small surgical procedure performed under a local anaesthetic. If you can cope with a filling you can cope with having an implant placed. However, some patients choose to have sedation during the procedure.
Patients report very little discomfort and most are back to normal the following day.

What are the benefits of dental implant surgery?
Dental implants reduce the need to grind down healthy tooth tissue, required by traditional bridgework. They are also easier to clean as they do not require any special cleaning products, simply brush and floss as you would your natural teeth.
Those who find dentures uncomfortable, unattractive and the cause of gum irritation may be ideal candidates for dental implants, which blend in with the surrounding teeth and allow the patient to eat whatever food they like and smile with confidence.
If you loose a tooth you are left with a small hole where the root used to be. Over time the shape of your mouth will change due to bone loss and this can cause problems with dentures as the shape of the jaw slowly changes. It can also lead to signs of ageing. Dental implants actually stimulate the bone and can help reduce the signs of ageing.
How long do they last?
Dental implant surgery is now recognised as one of the longest lasting and most predictable forms of tooth replacement.
Research shows 90% of implants to be fine after 15 years of use, most implants last longer than this.
You can promote the success of your dental implants through a healthy diet, avoiding smoking and maintaining good oral hygiene
